Why is your F.A.Q. so candid and why should I read it?
Welcome to an informative & transparent FAQ!
We want to meet, and hopefully exceed, guest expectations. And to do so, we need to find the guests seeking our curated experience while weeding out potential guests that won't have "said experience." Hence our candid FAQ and "Cabin Compare" pages. Do your homework, ask questions - are we the right experience for you and your guest(s)? The answer is probably yes, but read on and digest, we have been doing this a long time!
What is "Mountain Magic Resort's" story?
Long before Airbnb was a thing, we found land that we thought was a diamond in the rough and built our forever cabin. And 10+ years into working the land, we created something that had to be shared. First came adding a tiny house for friends and renters (and now we have renters that are friends). Next, we took a 100-year-old barn down to the studs, added an Airstream and a 2nd barn. We are now 8 Airbnbs strong and hopefully not counting any more as Airbnbs are a lot of work! This is our multi-generational contribution to our extended family and hopefully yours.
Who is your typical guest?
The answer is probably you. If you are looking for an actual experience, not just a basic Airbnb, but something unique, hi, welcome! If you are interested in a "farm stay," that's just a bonus. But we aren't just a farm, the land is so much more with trails and the river, swings and seating everywhere, not to mention our uncanny ability for you to discover something new each day. Sure we are super kid & family-friendly, but 1/3rd of our guests are couples, pre-kids or often sans-kids! Our experience does not fit into any one box which is why we are so popular, not to mention our ability to fit party sizes of 2 to 30! And our location is great, 20-25 minutes into Boone, the epi-center of the High Country, but minutes from things to do... Welcome to Mountain Magic Resort!
What We Provide:
- An Instagram-worthy, nature-immersive, and fun experience;
- One of eight unique Airbnbs. Only one cabin, "Mountain Magic (3/2)," our original cabin, does NOT have access to the farm, but not to worry, it has its own private petting zoo and is a really special free-standing cabin 15 mins away from the farm (and still our most popular rental to date), so don't feel bad for her;
- The animals. You provide the veggies/fruit. Most all love leafy greens like kale or lettuce, carrots, quartered apples, most anything but radishes. We do NOT permit corn or sweet feed (the animals will get sick);
- Almost 1/4 mile of river/creek frontage that allows for trout fishing, wading or water tubing (BYO fishing poles);
- The ziplines, trampoline, Waterslide Tube or Snow Tube (depending on the season), ponds, trails, manicured acreage, tons of land art, sitting spaces, picnic spaces, al fresco dining spaces, seasonal changes, a vegetable farm (grab a veggies for dinner), often farm-fresh eggs for sale, (is a pickleball court maybe under construction?), full bird aviary, firewood for sale (honor system) and simply acreage to roam.
- Fire Pits & Grills;
- Fully-equipped kitchens, linens, blankets, pillows & towels (Starter Set of soaps, toilet paper, trash bags & paper towels); &
- All the nature one needs and maybe a little bit of whimsy. Scratch that, a lot of whimsy.
What We Do NOT Provide:
- Food, spices, oils for cooking (BYO);
- Coffee (BYO), basic drip coffee makers;
- Firewood. We offer wood for sale (and cheaper than a box store) on the honor system; &
- Shower soaps (BYO); and
- Late Checkouts & Early Check-ins. If you read this FAQ and see our calendar & the night before (or after) your stay is open, we may have game-time, last-minute flexibility for a late or early, please ask! But typically, we are a well-oiled machine with limited turn time, work that needs to be completed between guests and the answer is usually no. Thanks for your grace.
What You Should Bring:
- Food, spices, oils for cooking, coffee grounds, extra trash bags;
- Guests like to bring their big thick beach towels (pro winter tip for the hot tubs);
- A camera phone and we so hope you share your experience on social! You can find us at @mountainmagicresort ... Why? Because we have a really nice way of thanking those that share;
- The proper transportation if there is snow or snow projected. We are considered "easy access" year-round, but if a snow storm hits, you must come prepared with 4x4 (we are not responsible for weather-related issues); &
- The correct mindset. This is the Blue Ridge Mountains. You will find a bug venturing inside, that is the trade-off to being immersed in nature. Go with the flow. 1500+ reviews strong! We promise your payoff and to hit or exceed expectations!
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
- I prefer to book through AIRBNB, is that OK? Sure (and it is a great spot to read real reviews!) VISIT AIRBNB HERE!
- Where the heck is Sugar Grove? Great question! We have been called an even slower moving Valle Crucis & just a few extra minutes away. We are the backside of Beech Mountain. We are 20-25 mins to Boone. We are 10 mins to Valle Crucis. We are 10 mins to Trash Can Falls (locals swimming hole). We are 10 mins from Cove Creek Store, get gas and local produce, everything a vacationer needs and a heckuva made-to-order sandwich or burger. Pretty dry area, get your adult beverages in Boone.
- Are you Family Friendly? Absolutely, but you will need to keep an eye on your little ones, there is a stream, ponds, hot tubs, hills, gulleys & farm animals.
- Are you Pet Friendly? Yes, to an extent and with an additional, one-time $50-75 fee. We do NOT tend to allow dogs over 45 pounds and rarely two medium sized dogs. In addition, our insurance does not approve the larger protective breeds, and frankly, our animals like to be the largest animals on property. NO CATS EVER. Pet Pre-Approval is required for all dogs over 25 pounds!
- Are the farm animals there year-round? Yes, 365, 24/7, bring food/veggies and they will brave a blizzard to fraternize.
- Can we visit the farm without booking an Airbnb? Sadly, no, we want to keep the experience private to our guests. Maybe coming in 2025!
- What is our CANCELLATION POLICY? Subject to change. We have a $35-50 cancellation fee for every reservation canceled, period. We will refund 100% of rents if you cancel more than 60 days in advance of your arrival date and 50% if cancelled 30 days before arrival. Within 30 days of arrival, only your cleaning fee is immediately refunded. If/when your dates rebook, we will refund whatever the next booking party pays. For instance, if you cancel a week before arrival, we will refund cleaning and then if one of your 2 nights rebook, we will refund 1 night (minus our cancellation fee). Cancelled dates do tend to rebook, we are pretty popular, but last-minute cancellations can be difficult to rebook as we can't just hang a vacancy sign by the side of the road. Thanks for understanding and you can always purchase 3rd party trip insurance.
- Explain Starry & Fairytale? Our original barn is a duplex with an upstairs and downstairs. Enter on different levels, opposite sides, nothing is shared but a roof, not even your A/C unit. Save money this way, but there will be noise from neighboring guests, so please be extra courteous (and for this we do not allow dogs over 25# at Starry nor howling dogs at Fairytale).
- Can I check-in on a holiday? Hard no, we do NOT allow check-ins on major holidays because will not allow our cleaners to work on major holidays. This can be calendar specific, just ask.
- Do I need 4x4? Yes and no. Our farm is on a state-maintained road with no major inclines from town to the farm, 90% of the time, a bicycle can make it. However, in the peak winter months, when major storms come through, EVERYONE needs 4x4 to safely get around, so please come prepared (Pro Tip: Buy chains on Amazon and simply return them when you don't need them... wink wink)! We have full-time neighbors without 4x4, but they know they won't be coming and going during a blizzard, they are prepared and you need to be too.
- Can we bring our Travel Trailer RV? Nope, no room and getting over the bridge would be difficult.
- What is different about each cabin? So happy you asked! VISIT HERE
- Can I rely on navigation to get us to the front door? Yes!
- What is my door or lockbox code? We have a very high occupancy rate. Our cleaners typically leave the doors open and the keys on the counter, its simply easier this way. You decide to keep the keys on person or keep them in the lockbox.
- How many Units are at the farm and how private are they? There are six units, each with their own version of privacy, but the farm is absolutely a shared amenity. If someone walking by your cabin while they explore is annoying, we are not the right fit, let's part as friends!
- Can we fish in the ponds? Yes, one of our ponds is now Catch n' Release, but a fishing license is required and you can purchase one online, at an outfitter or Wal-Mart in Boone. Children are covered by an adult license. No, it is NOT our job to police guests.
- Can we exceed the number of guests allowed? Probably not. Maybe an extra kid, but let's chat as maybe another unit will be more suitable.
- Does each Unit have a Fire Pit? Yes and no, either a private fire pit or access to a fire pit on property (meaning we have more fire pits than cabins at all times).
- Can I stay a weekday for free? I have a huge social media following? Maybe, message us through Instagram.
- Is there WiFi? Yes, of course, and it's good enough for streaming on a couple devices, but can be interrupted during heavy storms. Boone has plenty of spots with free WiFi and the entire town of Blowing Rock & West Jefferson has WiFi.
- Is there cell service? This is hit or miss, we recommend having a WiFi cell service like Whatsapp.
- The chicken laid an egg or a green pepper looks ripe, can I? Yes! But just one or two so everyone can have the same experience, that is what it's all about, right?
- When are the peak times to visit? June, July and October are definitely peak, with holidays always being extra busy. However, we are a four seasons resort area, so year-round we will book every weekend and most every weekday at our cabins.
- Sadly, you are out of our budget, when do you discount heavy? This stinks. If you can be flexible with dates, we can try to be a little flexible, too. Last-minute & weekdays get the best rates. Returning guests, especially.
